Are there any affordable places to live in the Vegas area?

Where can I find affordable apartments/studios in vegas?
I found some 1/2 bedrooms near the college campus for about $500-$700. Are there any places like that nearer to Las Vegas Boulevard or Fremont Street?

I’m not too concerned about the size of the place, but I am concerned about the quality of the apartment and its surroundings.
My situation is that I’m planning on working on or near the strip itself (and playing poker there regularly) and there’s a chance my girlfriend will be going to UNLV.

   The others if youre planning to attend unlv stick with apartment complexes close to the college there.
   The college there unless youre looking to get mugged beaten or killed.
